This is how to pair your blue pants

A blue chino is a versatile and timeless pant for men. It is a stylish alternative to jeans and can be worn both formally and informally. The color blue is also easy to combine with other colors and matches almost any outfit. Chinos are made of a lightweight cotton fabric in a twill weave.

TALL TAILORS' pants thereby have a slimmer fit than other more classic chinos. This creates a modern and neat look. Moreover, chinos are very comfortable and are suitable for different occasions. Whether you are going to work or have a casual day out planned, a blue chino always provides the solution. A blue chino is also an ideal choice for men looking for pants that are timeless and durable. By investing in a good quality chino, the pants will last and you will enjoy them for years to come.

Combining shirts and jackets with blue pants

For a more formal and/or business look, ideally pair blue pants with a shirt and possibly complemented with a jacket. The choice of shoes determines how businesslike you really are. A pair of smart sneakers can look great under blue pants combined with a shirt and jacket.

If you want to pair your blue pants with a shirt and jacket pay attention to the following points:

  • A white shirt is preferable as far as we are concerned, this gives a super nice contrast with blue pants and looks very chic;
  • A light blue shirt is a solid second choice. However, you should pay attention to your other clothes. If you wear a blue jacket over this, everything might look too blue again. Choose a very dark jacket to go with your shirt and pants, or a jacket with a subtle pattern;
  • Combining a dark blue shirt with your blue pants is certainly possible, but only if the shirt is very dark blue. If the pants and the shirt are almost the same color and shade, it will not look nice.
  • If you want to pair a shirt above with your blue pants and wear it out of your pants, make sure your shirt is not creased, that your shirt is not too long and that you finish your casual look with good sneakers. That way, you'll still look well-groomed but casual;
  • The jacket you want to pair with your blue pants depends mainly on the color of your shirt and the color difference between the pants and the jacket. If you choose a blue jacket, make sure it's just a different shade than the pants, so it doesn't seem like a whole. A black or gray jacket is also possible, but in our opinion these are less beautiful choices. If you wear your shirt out of your pants, preferably choose no jacket at all.

Pair sweaters and sweatshirts with blue pants

If you're going for a more casual look and it's not too warm, choose a sweater or sweatshirt to pair with your blue pants. Of course, with a formal style, a sweater is also an option. Think of a fine pullover over a shirt, a merino wool sweater with a zipper or a turtleneck.

Opt for a sweater or hoodie for a casual look, being careful not to take a blue sweater. Actually, all colors go well with a dark blue base offered by your chino, but as far as we are concerned, the lighter options are the best. These contrast nicely with the blue pants.

If you like to wear a sweater with your formal look, choose a nice pullover to wear over your shirt. Here you have the natural choice of a crewneck (round neck) or the v-neck. Really a personal choice. As far as we are concerned, you should always choose a white shirt, which provides a nice base. As a sweater over your chino you should preferably pick a light color. Beige, light gray or light khaki are really stylish choices. Choose a nice sweater made of merino wool or cashmere. Combining your blue pants with a cotton pullover can quickly look unkempt, as the cotton pullover quickly becomes faded and loses its shape.

Finally, a turtleneck is also great to pair with blue pants. With the turtleneck you really make a statement. It looks good on some, not on others. The turtleneck is a real eye-catcher and combined with a jacket and your blue chinos, you will look great. If you choose a turtleneck, go for a very dark or a very light color to go with your blue pants.

Pairing T-shirts and polos with blue pants

For the most casual look, just pair your blue chinos with a t-shirt, of course. A neat t-shirt with a good fit suits everyone and makes you look groomed. While doing so, please omit shirts with eye-catching prints or prints. Those t-shirts look better over shorts.

If you want to wear a nice t-shirt over your blue pants on the warmer days, again choose a light color. Preferably go for a plain white shirt, but something of color is also good, of course. A black shirt is also a great option! Over your shirt you could of course wear an overshirt. This combination goes well with a pair of white sneakers under your blue pants.

In terms of polo choice, you are actually always right but leave your navy blue polo in the closet. Wearing blue on blue isn't really pretty unless it's over blue jeans. To give it a slightly more formal look, you can also opt for a long-sleeve polo shirt.

Combining jackets with blue pants

You don't often read about it and may not think of it right away when combining clothes, but choosing the right coat over your blue pants can make a big difference in how you look and thus how confident you walk down the street.

There are many different coats on the market so below we try to list the most obvious ones for you:

  • The raincoat is a no-brainer with your business look, of course. A beige trench coat pairs super with your blue pants.
  • The overcoat (long fabric jacket) is a good choice to make in colder temperatures. Since the jacket here is a lot longer than "normal" and it is clearly a coat, as far as we are concerned, a navy color is definitely a great choice. Green or gray are also super colors to pair with your blue chino. The overcoat can be worn both formally and informally and can be a real eye catcher. Show that you know about fashion and make the right choices by combining the right colors. Make it casual by wearing and white sneakers underneath and keep the coat open, completed with a long scarf.
  • The leather jacket, the biker. Again depending on the jacket you can choose a leather jacket in a formal or informal look. Combining blue pants with neat shoes a white shirt and over that a brown, or cognac colored, leather jacket looks very stylish and tough. The same goes for the casual look with white sneakers and possibly a black biker. As a tall man, make sure your biker has a good length. The arms should be long enough, but also pay attention to the length of the back. If it is too short, it can look weird with your long legs.
  • The sport coat, the winter sports coat. We thought it would be good to mention this coat as well. We still often see men walking around trying to look neat and tidy by combining a nice pair of blue pants with smart shoes and a shirt. Unfortunately, they sometimes choose to wear their sport coat, or even worse their winter sports coat, over it. This is not doing anyone a favor. Please leave this coat at home, and use it on winter sports or when you are walking the dog.

Pairing shoes with blue pants

With shoes you complete your outfit and, as far as we are concerned, you show a piece of your own identity. Combining shoes with blue pants can be done in many, many ways. So many ways that we won't name them all here. The most obvious choices are:

  • Neutral neat shoes. From smooth leather or suede, cognac colored, dark brown or black, it's all possible.
  • Eye-catching neat shoes. Bright colors or, for example, floral prints. It's not our preference but you often see them popping up.
  • White sneakers. The shoes every self-respecting man should have in his closet. White sneakers (provided they are still white) literally look great under any outfit. You will never go wrong with these. They are even worn under suits and tuxedos so also ideal to combine with your blue pants.
  • Colored sneakers. Nice to stand out. Just make sure you are not wearing even more garments that also stand out. Our advice is to wear 1 piece of clothing that really draws attention. Keep the other clothes neutral.
  • Leather boots. Definitely a good option in the wetter and colder winter months. Choose dark brown boots here, for example, and pair with a cool leather jacket.

All in all, blue pants can be combined with other garments in many ways. The important thing here is that you always make sure your clothes fit well and that you look groomed. You may occasionally misjudge the color, but you can still get away with this if you at least look groomed. When looking for clothes to pair with your blue pants, it is good to be alert to the colors and shades. Blue, or navy, is a great color to combine, but the wrong shades of blue on top of each other quickly create a weird image.
