How to choose the right length size of pants?

What is a length measurement?

Most clothing brands produce for the masses: people of average height and a standard build. But few brands set their sights on the literal upper end of the spectrum: tall people. Between brands, there is often quite a bit of variation in the sizing of their collections. For example, one brand's pants may be 36 in length while another's are 38.

The term "length size" refers to pants that are a bit longer than normal in length. It is often referred to as a length size starting at length 36.

How do you measure the length of pants?

'Length 36' refers to pants with an inseam of 36 inches. This refers specifically to the inseam of the pants. This is measured from the crotch of the pants (the place where 4 seams meet), to the bottom of the pant leg. Lay your pants flat on a table and make sure you can measure the inseam with a tape measure. Then you can convert the centimeters to inches to find out the length measurement of the pants.

If you have a pair of pants with a model where the crotch is somewhat later, such as jogging pants, it may be that these pants are not a length 36, but a length 34. If you are always a length 36, then also order your sweatpants in length 36. The size you need depends on the model of the pants.

What are the standard length sizes for men?

As mentioned above, there can be quite a difference between clothing brands and the sizing of their pants. For example, you have clothing brands that base their sizes on the customer's height. If you are 1.95, then you order size '190-200' from them, for example. Only, how do they know, what your upper to lower body ratio is? So, for someone with short legs, this system does not work.

There are also companies that offer their clothing according to the more common size L or XL, but with the addition of 'long' or 'tall'. This then includes an addition that, for example, 'tall' is for men with a height between 1.90 and 1.95 meters.

Sometimes a brand also offers a calculator on their site so that you, the customer, can "easily" determine your ideal fit. Based on values such as height, weight and activity level, you know what size to choose for their products.
